Programming Club Activities
In the Homestead High School CS Club, I have introduced ideas related to computer science to our members and other schools.
In Homestead Hacks, the middle school hackathon organized by the CS Club, I taught Python to middle schoolers with our Programming with Python workshop. Over the last three years, I have introduced topics in machine learning, game theory, and algorithms through presentations on k-means clustering, topological sort, Wythoff’s game (with additional connections to programming), and autoencoders (just this year).
I also led a small group to investigate cryptography, which culminated with a presentation to the club members. To introduce the concept of artificial intelligence bias to members, I invited Divya Gopinath, an industrial expert from MIT, to give a talk at our club to talk about this issue and present ways to evaluate fairness in machine learning.
In senior year, I worked to increase member participation in CS club, and I boosted enrollment 2.2 times.
